Description: South Metro Jewish Congregation listed by Keshet, Portland, Oregon’s LGBT social group as being GLBTQQ friendly.
Per their website: Our Mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for people in the Portland South Metro region to join together for Jewish education, celebration, tzedakah, and worship. Our Reform Congregation is a community of Jewish and interfaith families and individuals who live in a primarily non-Jewish environment, geographically and culturally distant from the established Portland Jewish community. We welcome anyone, wherever they are on the Jewish spectrum. Our Driving Force is a common desire for our families and children to share a sense of Jewish belonging that comes from hands-on ownership within our own created community of mishpoche. We are a dynamic congregation of involved people who have chosen to connect or reconnect to Judaism and a Jewish identity. Our Vision is a community where Jews by Birth, Jews by Choice, and Jews at Heart are accepted and feel a sense of belonging. We are an open, inviting, and spiritually alive Jewish community, with families and individuals joining us from the greater Portland communities of West Linn, Lake Oswego, Oregon City, Gladstone, Milwaukie, Beaverton, Tualatin, Tigard, Wilsonville, Sherwood – and beyond. We honor the richness and tradition of Judaism in a manner that’s accessible to everyone.

As a community of spiritual seekers, we approach our spiritual path from a Jewish perspective. Our community is organized solely to offer a place for ourselves and the Portland community where this spiritual perspective can flourish, and we can deepen our wisdom, attunement, and experience. Our roots are in Torah, Kabbalah, and other classic Jewish sources; our intent is to make Jewish spirituality accessible. Our guide, teacher, and friend in this unfolding process is Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield, whose insights, knowledge and humor guide us on our path. We are also affiliated nationally with ALEPH, founded by Reb Zalman Schacter-Shalomi.
P’nai Or services combine elements of traditional Judaism with joyful song and dance in a participatory environment. A diversity of Jewish experience and expression is reflected in our membership, and all are welcome as full participants in the community.
